Renewal of a Trademark can be made by filing a suitable application
with the Italian Patent and Trademark Office not before than 12
months before the lapsing of the same application.
Belated renewal is possible, within six months after the due date,
and subject to an additional fee the amount of which is not remarkable.
Amended versions of the registered trademarks may be filed for
renewal purposes, provided that the changes do not substantially
affect the identity of the trademark as originally registered.
Differently than in other countries, renewals in Italy not only
consist of a payment of fees but instead a full application has
to be filed together with a power of attorney. It is worth pointing
out that the number assigned to a registration certificate does
change at each renewal.
Renewal is for ten years counted from the date of expiration of
the former registration, but renewal applications may be filed
in the twelve months preceding the expiration.
Renewal of a registration which in part has been assigned, may
be carried out by each of the owners, each for his own part, only.
