INDUSTRY 2015

On September 22, 2006, the Cabinet approved the Industry 2015 Bill. A synopsis of the draft law has been published by the Ministry for Economic Development

The proposed initiatives, with general reference to the Industrial Property sector, include:

  • the Introduction of duties on patents and utility models and on the registration of designs and models as well as fees in trademark opposition proceedings. Universities and Public Research bodies have been exempted from the duties
  • the introduction of prior art searches in respect of patent applications
  • ownership of inventions in favour of Universities
  • provides for the reintroduction of the rules of Intellectual Property process to replace the current Company law rules

The amount of the patent duties will be established within 30 days from the entry into force of the present law by way of Decree of the Ministry for Economic Development in collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy.
