From March 28, 2007, it has become possible to register the country
code top level domain (ccTLD) .kr before the Korean domain name
Registration Authority.
In order to register domain names with a .kr extension,
a local office or residence is normally required. However, even
where this is not available, Barzanò & Zanardo is in
a position to offer applicants the possibility of registering,
the above mentioned domain names through a local trustee without
any particular formalities.
Furthermore, it is also possible to register domain names with
the extension .cn. .com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn for China and in
this case a local office or residence is not required.
It is evident that the registration of company names and trademarks
in countries such as China and Korea in an area of Asia which
is experiencing rapid economic development represents a further
form of protection for distinctive signs and an opportunity for
potential business development.
On one hand, in fact, registering a local domain name eliminates
the possibility of illicit third party registrations and, on the
other hand, is a way of obtaining visibility among consumers who
are ever more used to using the internet for evaluating their
purchasing decisions.
